26 years old andrade is without doubt, one of the most exciting talents from the current crop of young french producers. having built a reputation within the paris scene for his skills behind the decks. releases on dessous followed and last year andrade also made an impressive debut on poker flat recordings. making the first release of his own label street knowledge, its time for andrade to take centre stage himself with the >sugar ep<. its bass-heavy groove is met with a busy vocal sample and refined piano chords, evoking a picture of his street knowledge. sugar is the soundtrack to a loft party. classics snares, mysterious synths chords and crowd noises. fantastic. keeping it old school and rolling with the bass lines and keys, andrade wraps up the originals with irreversible and berlin. for this first release, djulz offers two excellent remixes of sugar in order to confirm the power of this release.

new ep from berlin-based producer, artist, dj and head honcho of catenaccio records, benjamin fehr. this 1 inch highlights his commitment to >groove noir< - fehr s self-defined dark and psychedelic take on electronic music. the lead track, my lover lures the listener in with dark, minimal grooves, perfectly exemplifying fehr s hypnotic sound. the b-side puts the groove in groove noir, thumping out of the gate with a dark kick that builds and builds, punctuated by a single haunting piano key. on the scene since 1993, fehr started out with residencies at well-respected clubs such as robert johnson and the legendary kiosk. he s had a multitude of releases on well known labels, like foundsound, brouqade, lowmidhigh lmtd, tic tac toe, nervmusic, adjunct and many more. 2011 has kept fehr busy with the release of his ep, stay at home and read a book on his own label and upcoming remixes on eminor, nervmusic, suena hermosa, 3117 records, and leet.

joey negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master british dj/producer/remixer dave lee. under a plethora of other monikers including jakatta, akabu, doug willis, raven maize, the sunburst band, sessomatto, and z factor, dave was one of the first artists to incorporate disco samples in house music when he began his production career in 1988. indeed, he was in the studio making credible and outstanding british house music when many luminaries around him were still busy getting to grips with their decks. in 2011 little has changed and dave is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful and in-demand artists on the global scene

after a break for over a year pattern repeat is back again with another two tracks on their own label. both kenneth & resoe has been really busy last year, so it has been difficult to meet up in the studio. but now they had the time to finish two tracks of deep dirty techno from the capitol of denmark copenhagen. again they set it of with raw dirty dub infected grooves and the a side starts up right away with the dub elements intact, and then keeps building through the rest of the track. after the short break a hypnotic atmosphere kicks off in best pattern repeat style. the b side starts slowly with an almost alfred hitchcock kind of atmosphere, with a dull kick underneath. the track keeps gettin more dirty through the 6 min. and 15 secs. it last, with more distortion added to the dub stabs. its a good way that kenneth & resoe returns since the last 12 inch they put out in december 2010, to set the stage for 2012.

fresh from a full tour of the uk, django django are pleased to announce the release of new single ‘default’ through because music. the band have been busy doing great things in the east london bedroom slept in by their drummer, producer and de facto leader david maclean. amongst those great things is stand-out album track ‘default’ and of course their self-titled debut lp which will grace us with its presence on january 30th. vincent neff (singer and guitarist), jimmy dixon (bassist), and synth operator tommy grace make up the quartet, who met at art school in edinburgh. django django’s story looks set to be a long and compelling one going by early response to their debut record. by banging together their thirst for adventure and their exacting high standards, they’ve produced an album that seems to have everything, but on which everything never seems too much.

token is 5 years old. i never planned to do anything special for this occasion. however, when i received these 2 new tracks from phase, all just fell into place. this release pretty much sums up what token stands for since day one. both tracks are fierce pieces of relentless yet deep techno, in-your-face yet very subtle rhythms, all credited to phases detailed drum programming, keen sense of atmospherics & sound processing.

rounding off what has been a busy year for idle hands comes a 12 inch from west country residents outboxx. this duo, comprised of jacob martin (aka hodge) and matthew lambert have steadily built a reputation for themselves with releases on well rounded and immerse. moving away from the dominant trends in bass music the pair have been forging a sound more akin to early nineties deep house - yet retaining a palette of 2011 sounds. here they present two tracks - >aporia< is a lesson in wistful house, all pianos and a sneeky bass drop half way through the tune. >cromwell< is a straight ahead house roller, but with enough sub to keep the bass enthusiasts happy. support so far from ramadanman and sven weiseman.

agaric, who is frantically busy in the aftermath of his highly respected album on ovum, delivers and arena shattering remix. nima khak (drumcode/truesoul) takes the original on a more thought provoking, deeper journey. and to round out this release we have the swedish minimalistic masters, kretipleti, who twist things up and take it dark.

the intermezzo ep kicks off with we are here, which could be easily described as get out part 2. a spoken word vocal over kerris trademark beats and instrumentation, musing on the subject of a busy schedule and calways available technology. so it begins again takes things down a much more tribal road, perfect for a big room, and the dc10 mix is a nod towards the direction kerri had in mind and the dancefloors he created this track for. the dark mix takes this idea even further with a more progressive feel as the track plays out. red lights explores a more live drum feel with a cut-up breakbeat playing a 4/4 rhythm, and a throbbing bassline and synth pattern. this one is a little deeper but still packs plenty of punch!

after some silence on credo due to the fact that alex was pretty busy with productions and numerous remixes for other labels, he kills it totally now with this outstanding twotracker. >theory of noise< delivers two unique technotracks and especially >noise b< shakes it down in sets all over with its remarkable groovepattern und heavy as well as warm bass structure. this is the adequate follow up on the black series of the label after the outstanding and regurarly repressed >dark summer nights< that came out two years go. alex in top-shape, grab it!

pattern select aka milton jackson and show-b have gone well and truly back to the raw on this, their first collaborative work together and debut ep for delusions of grandeur. both producers have been busy on some top quality projects just recently with milton jackson remixing recloose for planet e and show b producing for robert owens on compost. the pair met at a party in munich, promptly fell in love, and soon enough pattern select was born. kicking off tale of the tape sees the pair go deep n dark on this low-slung groove where demonic laughter rides the driving hats and insesant crashes until the filtering arpeggiated synth line joins the fun. tale of the dub gives us a stripped back, dub-infused version which goes a little lighter on the craziness of the first version but without losing any of the deep, hypnotic funk.

we are back for another slab of genre-defying, ass-kicking, booty-shaking, timeless underground beats. get the curse music 07 features two cuts from the mysterious crackboy and two remixes from rising star gesaffelstein & toronto’s james teej. the question of crackboy’,s identity is burning everyone’s lips. who’s hiding behind this oh-so poetic moniker? theories abound, and rumor has it crackboy was last seen smoking on his pipe in the filthiest dens of the parisian underbelly. efforts to trace him since then have proved fruitless and until the next sighting, the enigma remains.
in spite of all this mystery one fact is crystal clear: with early feedback from ed banger’s busy p reaching the same conclusion that crackboy’s productions are solid gold, this is an ep with substantial crossover potential that will put the whole scene on the same wavelength.

hypnolove are a cult band from toulouse, in the southwest france. their first album >eurolove< included the french pop song >mademoiselle< which featured across french national radio stations, a kiss cover (i was made for loving you), a feist featuring (bitch lap lap) (but sshh, no one is allowed to mention her real name, she became famous just after recording it) and even a punk track! the album was going places. nothing short of brilliant, but alas, audiences had a hard time understanding the logic of it, which of course was simply the songs, the taste, the musicality and the talent!dj-support from tiga, busy p, steve aoki, pilooski, the magician, munk, jerry bouthier, rory phillips ...

open the curtain for the next trick from the highgrade disharmonic orchestra: for the last year the team have been busy refuting the notion that the dj is a one-man-band in the booth… tom clark, todd bodine, philip bader, dale and daniel dreier are an act that combines all their many and varied qualities into one pot, stirring vigorously and serving up a hearty dish that goes straight to the hips! they have proven many times with their live performance that the musical ingredients are just right – and have also put the evidence on the record with an original ep. now comes the follow up. the first track way too far, is a live recording which evokes an atmosphere of urban beats and pulsating flashes just behind the eyes and a dancing crowd who appear to sink deep into the dance floor. then theres a complete chance of scene for the second track the other night, that appears to hijack the veranda of a villa in the american south. crisp rhythms are backed by muffled thumping beats, a trumpet laments, a sexy sleep-talking emerges in gentle piano sounds. this is southern passion under the disco ball, cleverly approximated by the highgrade disharmonic orchestra

new vocal 12 inch on wph....tip! it should be obvious by now that we here at the wph camp are keen on real vocals. so while the rest of the world is busy sampling and recycling vocals from the past, leave it up to us to pick out those tracks that feature fresh and home made vocals. although wph 012 by dj yellow also indulges in a little bit of recycling, or rather good old fashioned licensing. the title track >night in tranzylvania< has been a huge favourite with label boss red d and his belgian crowd ever since it was released on the criminally overlooked album >intermission< on project recordings in 2008. but now it is back in all its glory and supported by >angels part< a killer ambient track which also featured on that album album, >je tm<, a new track by dj yellow and a russ gabriel remix of the title track.

a little quiet so far this year but now one of the new power generation drum & bass production crews are back with an absolutely sick two part ep that is anything but quiet. michael willer and robert stefan aka body & soul have been busy, very busy creating what is undoubtedly their most explosive release to date on their own nasca records. get ready for a great big bag of awesome!
part 1 lets rip with the title track >shipwrecked<, with an ominous intro it sets the scene perfectly for whats to come with an outrageously horrid bass that snarls and pulls at its lead, snapping at anything that comes close. you d better start running though because when that lead breaks its gonna get you! add a nasty vox and the package is complete. demolition drum and bass that’s ready to take out the whole club!

whatpeopleplay reels in another biggie for their second release: >western starland< is surely one of the signature tunes by tech-funk luminary john tejada and his long-time collaborateur ariane leviste. originally released in 2001 on his palette imprint this is one of those tunes that never leave the crates of many djs and if you have been dancing anywhere in the last 10 years you will surely instantly recognize those synthetic string chords. tejada himself gets busy here and revamps the also included original with a brand-new 2011 mix: the original signature elements are right there from the start but fused with a beefy house beat, a new bassline, a hissing soul organ and lifted to the next plateau by thundering staccato chords in a classic detroit style. the flip holds the glorious original plus the not any less brilliant john tejada vip mix from 2003.

parham & plaza aka the quantum mechanics teamed up almost a decade ago and have since been establishing their brand as two of the top producers in the modern electronic dance music scene by releasing tracks for some of the worlds hottest record labels. with their unique hybrid sound they have both been busy touring the world while several of their productions have hit various acknowledged charts worldwide.

its been 2 years since benny rodrigues last release on be as one and since then, the young dutch producer has pushed forward his career, both in the studio and in the dj booth. having remixed people like josh wink, dj pierre, justice, spirit catcher to name just some and released on ovum, poker flat, figure, klockworks, with a busy dj schedule in clubs as berghain or rex, at his young age benny is clearly a well respected artist. benny rodrigues interpretation of acid house takes the form of i like acid, and surely it sounds classic! acid synth madness like in the old days but with an updated touch to rock the floors in 2011. choice hypnotic appeal will not get unnoticed on the floor, once again a track that finds its strenght in the basic structure of its arrangement, effective drums patterns with a freakish top line that carry the track into peak time. steve rachmad remixes as sterac are always a treat, and here the techno legend doesnt fail to impress once again with his take on bennys i like acid. snares, hi-hats, rides and bass, all arranged to build up to a melodic and emotional breakthru, dancefloor bliss for the detroit techno heads. to close this amazing package, germanys own mike dehnert brings his trademark sound to be as one in the form of his remix of i like acid. a tune that finds its perfect habitat in dark, smokey and sweaty rooms with massive sound systems.

here at bearfunk hq we firmly believe in perseverance. we keep asking questions until we get the right answer and with 6ft bear by our side the answer is usually yes. we kept asking ilija rudman to get in the studio and write us a killer lp but being the busy bee that he is it was hard for him to take the time out. we kept asking until he eventually caved in and went underground to record his first lp, >the reveal<. ilija is a devoted and passionate man when it comes to music. one of his prerequisites for recording an lp was that the recordings had to be made with the same techniques and equipment that inspired him to make music in the first place. so ilija hooked up with one of his studio mentors and got his dream line-up of synthesizers, roland jupiter 4 & 8, minimoog, roland sh2, juno 60 and his dream drum machines linn and oberheim dmx. these analogue machines fire up to create a warm and authentic vibe across the whole lp. we are reminded here that machines do have soul if used properly. we start proceedings with the wigged out boogie of >inspectors drive< which might be a little nod in the direction of wally badarous classic chief in< have all the ingredients of dj friendly hits. the lp reveals all the influences that ilija has experienced and it shows the talent that runs inside him as he is able to make such an amazingly retro lp sound like something from the future. we are sure in years to come this lp could become as important as the influences that inspired mr. rudman to make it.

the mighty antidandruff returns after few years of sleep. this time its a bit more conceptual ep than usually. ep starts with a moody sandwell mix of >kulenty< (released on pvc8) produced probably by regis in the berlins sandwell district busy studios. the other 3 tracks are by rumenige & loktibrada resp. loktibrada alone, with each track the tempo is rising up a bit and its all club techno, of course.
